Good oral health starts early. Cavities can cause children pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. You should start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as soon as the first tooth arrives. Prior to that, wipe away food with water and a cloth and use a soft bristle brush on the gums. Here are a few more tips to give your child a healthy smile. Call us today.

Good Dental Hygiene

  • Bring your child to one of 10 Tampa Family Health Centers dental office every six months for a checkup.
  • Avoid putting your baby down with a bottle filled with anything other than water. This will help prevent tooth decay.
  • Use an infant toothbrush. They are gentle and make brushing babies’ teeth easier.
  • Start using a fluoride toothpaste twice a day as early as age 2. This helps to strengthen your child’s teeth. Also, teach them how to brush their own teeth at this age.
  • Show kids how you and other family members brush your teeth. This will encourage them to get into the act at an early age.
  • Limit sugar intake and brushing regularly to help prevent cavities.
  • Ask your dentist about dental sealants. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth and cause cavities.
