Billing and Insurance

Are services free?

No, services at the Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC) are not free. Patients pay for services according to their income and household size by applying for our sliding fee schedule.

What do I do if I can’t pay for my care?

Your ability to pay should not stop you from receiving the healthcare you need. You might be eligible to set up a payment plan or we can arrange for you to pay for services on a sliding fee scale.

How can I obtain HCHCP or Medicaid?

Visit one of our Centers to meet with a Financial Counselor who can guide you through the application process.

Can anyone apply for the sliding fee schedule?

Yes, we encourage everyone to apply for the sliding fee schedule.

Can I come to Tampa Family Health Centers if I have insurance?

Absolutely. We accept many health insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare. Please remember to bring your insurance card for your visits.

Can I apply for the sliding fee schedule if I have insurance with a high deductible or uncovered services?

Insured patients may also be eligible for discounts on uncovered insurance services and the sliding fee schedule based on income and family size.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.

What is the out-of-pocket cost for a physical?

The cost for school physicals is $25. Adult physicals vary depending on income and age. Please bring proof of income, and our staff will assist you in determining the cost.

Do I need to make an appointment?

While we encourage appointments, we also accept walk-in patients based on our schedule availability.

What do I do if I have an emergency after hours?

If you are having a true emergency, call 911. Tampa Family Health Centers has four (4) health centers that have extended hours for your convenience:

Monday – Friday: 8a – 5p

North Tampa: 1502 East Fowler Ave. Tampa, FL 33612
Monday – Friday: 8a – 8p, Saturday: 8a – 5p

Monday – Thursday 8a – 8p, Friday 8a – 5p

Can I walk in for a physical?

No, physicals, paps, and vaccinations require appointments. Walk-in appointments are available for acute illnesses only.

Does TFHC schedule same-day dental appointments?

While we aim to accommodate "emergency" dental patients on the same day, it may not always be possible. Scheduling an appointment in advance is recommended.

How can I obtain free HIV testing?

Free and confidential HIV testing is available to both patients and non-patients during these hours at all locations: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM.

Clinical Advice and Provider Requests

I need clinical advice from my Provider or a clinical support team member. What are my options?

You have several options for clinical advice:

Call Center: Reach us at 813-397-5300, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Call the center’s location: We'll route you to an On-Call Provider.

I want to see a specific doctor – can I request them to be my doctor?

Indeed, you can request a specific doctor. If your preferred provider is unavailable, our collaborative team of providers ensures your care remains seamless and exceptional.

Medical Records and Transfers

I moved to another area of Tampa. Would my medical records transfer to another TFHC Center, or do I need to obtain a copy?

Your medical information is stored electronically, ensuring easy access at any TFHC Center. You do not need to obtain physical copies of your medical history to visit a new TFHC Center.
